Pure Natural Strong Fast Blue Dye Indigo Blue Colorant Indigo Natural Indigo Extract Powder
The term Indigo is multifaceted, referring primarily to a deep blue color, the natural dye that produces it, and the plants used to create that dye.
For millennia, indigo was the world's only source of a strong, fast blue dye.
The Dyeing Process (The "Magic" of Indigo):
Fermentation: Leaves are soaked in water and fermented, converting indican to indoxyl.
Alkalization: An alkaline substance (like lime or wood ash) is added.
Aeration: The solution is agitated, introducing oxygen. Indoxyl oxidizes to form indigotin – the insoluble blue pigment that precipitates as a sludge.
The Indigo Vat: This pigment is then reduced in a special vat (traditionally with fermentation or chemicals like sodium hydrosulfite), making it water-soluble and yellow-green. Fabric dipped in this vat turns yellow-green.
Oxidation & The True Blue: When the fabric is removed and exposed to air, the soluble form re-oxidizes back into insoluble, deep blue indigotin inside the fibers, making the color extremely durable and wash-fast.
